Reading time:In practice, the effective size of the material can vary from 0.25 mm (garnet or sand) to 2 mm (sand) or 5 mm (anthracite). This media can be laid over :
- either a floor fitted with nozzles that have slots that are significantly narrower than the size of the material;
- or a support layer (gravel, garnet …) when the filter media and nozzle slots are not compatible.
This 5 to 40 cm deep support layer can be made up of two to four sub-layers of intermediate granulometry depending on the media and on distribution system requiring protection (laterals or nozzles).
