filter press
The filter press is a solid-liquid separation appliance that works according to the high pressure filtration principle (therefore, a relative fine mesh filtering mediumis used).
With the centrifuge, this is the appliance that is the most widely used in sludge treatment. Its main advantage is that it produces the highest dry solids content of all mechanical dewatering systems.
By applying the general surface filtration rules (rules of Darcy and Carman – see fundamental equations), laboratory methods (see filtrability test) can be used to determine a sludge’s suitability for pressure filtration (filtration time, final dry solids content, choice and amount of conditioning product…).
