sludge sampling
Reading time:Regardless of the origin of sludge, ISO standard ISO 5667-13 applies to sludge sampling. It is rarely possible to use an automatic sampler because sludge is typically not liquid enough.
In most cases, sampling will be carried out on based on grab samples and the representatively of the sample is fundamental: high turbulence zone for liquid sludge, large sample collected according to recommendations detailed in ISO standard ISO 5567-13 for paste-like and solid sludge.
Only plastic flasks (used for suspended solids and MM analysis) can be re-used; however, they will need to be cleaned.
To ensure proper sample preservation the sampling flasks should be filled to the brim when they are not supplied with additives (acid …) for the sample stabilisation.
