oxidizing agent selection guide
Reading time:Tables 39 and 40 compare the reactivity of the main oxidising agents currently used in water treatment and the drawbacks directly induced. For each target, the effectiveness and side effects of each oxidising agents will depend on a number of factors that also interact with each other:
- the quality of the water to be treated determines the nature of the reactions that potentially compete with each other;
- the amount of reagent used must be adjusted according to the speed of reaction of the various pollutants.
Utilisation conditions have been described in chapter oxidation-disinfection together with the technical limitations applicable to the use of oxidising agents.
Figure 98 shows the advantages and limitations of the main oxidising agents currently used. The water treatment operator is compelled to combine one or more means that are available to him in order to optimise treatment systems.
